The First Session of the Capacity-Building Workshop on Quantitative Research Methods

The first session of the series of capacity-building workshops for the lecturers of Salam University, titled “Fundamentals of Quantitative Research,” was held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, 15th of Hamal, in the conference hall of Salam University. The session was attended by lecturers from the faculties of Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, and Law and Political Science, as well as a number of the university’s administrative staff.

The program began with opening remarks by Mr. Tariq Sayyar and was officially inaugurated with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an by Dr. Faseehullah, a lecturer in Sharia. Following this, the Deputy for Research at Salam University, Mr. Nasir Ahmad Navidi, welcomed the participants and spoke about the importance of organizing such workshops to enhance the research capacities of both lecturers and students. He then introduced the program’s trainer, Engineer Safiullah Zahid, Project Manager of Third-Party Monitoring and Evaluation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

During the presentation segment, the trainer discussed the fundamentals of quantitative research, covering topics such as an introduction to quantitative research, the differences between quantitative and qualitative research, research problems and objectives, as well as variables and hypotheses in detail.

This was followed by a question-and-answer session, during which participants shared their questions and perspectives with the trainer, leading to discussions and exchanges on key aspects of quantitative research.

At the end of the session, the trainer divided the participants into four groups and provided necessary guidelines for the next session. The upcoming sessions are expected to focus more on practical work and the development of specific research projects within groups. The session concluded at around 4:00 PM.
